Out-Of-Network Medical Providers Affected By The Cyberattack Have More Time To Initiate IDR Under The Federal NSA

Great news! The Biden administration has extended the deadline for healthcare providers impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack. This extension will give providers more time to seek out-of-network billing arbitration under the No Surprises Act. This is largely due to the challenges providers face in obtaining essential plan information due to the cyberattack’s impact on payment processing. Now, affected providers have until October 12, 2024 (120 days from June 14, 2024) to file independent dispute resolution, or IDR, requests under the Federal No Surprises Act, which is a welcome relief for affected medical providers. This decision will ease the burden on healthcare providers, addressing the strain caused by the cyberattack and the resulting backlog of billing disputes associated with the No Surprises Act.
